Friends and Followers:
If you live in the Chicago area, you can see an exhibit of my poetry at the Chicago Public Library, (downtown main library) throughout April, as part of the National Poetry Month celebration. I am honored to be asked to exhibit my framed haiku and haiku sequences accompanied by beautiful art. (Art and haiku combined is called “haiga.”) This will be the featured exhibit on the third floor. I will also be speaking at Poetry Fest at the Library on Saturday, April 30, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Attend my lecture and discussion, The Delight of Writing and Publishing Haiku. It will include analysis of sample haiku and senryu from some of the best haiku poets in the country and a writing exercise. The workshop will teach you all you need to know about haiku.
Of course, I am promoting the exhibit and my presentation. But, I am also making a point by writing about this. Be your own cheerleader about all your writing presentations, awards, publishing, etc. Writers must be their own cheerleaders, regardless of the genre they are writing in. It’s certainly a “thankless job” most of the time, and financial rewards are hard to come by when you write creatively.
So, make the most of whatever events or successes come your way, and shout them to the world. You can shamelessly self-promote (within reason). You are your best promoter. You know your work better than anyone else does, so promote it! Be unabashed!
Best wishes for your success!
