This poem is so meaningful for me. When my husband received his kidney transplant they needed to place a shunt into his neck. He had to shave in order for this to happen. This was the first time since I met him, that he was beardless (24 years). That simple transactional experience is the heart of this poem. I’m happy that it was recognized at the Basho festival in Ueno, Japan, that year. Now that he has passed away, it means even more. Thank you for choosing it for your blog.
