Longhouse Publishers has just published, “FLANEUR” (1 & 2), 2024, by Donna Fleischer, a selection of 25 haibun, “mostly new, in two A4 tall, two-sided, double foldout bus tickets with pictures, wrapped in gold-flecked envelope.”

Fleischer is a longtime poet and contributor to this blog.

Below are four samples of haibun from the book, selected by Fleischer:

Just Enough

The river trail is flush with wild rose bushes. Flanked by them, their just enough scent, pale whites and pinks, kimonos slightly open

Slow, Silver Station Wagon

As I blog these days, I look for my mother in cyberspace, abstract, remote, intimate as death. She left many years ago, the slow, silver station wagon hurrying her away somewhere

October’s gold-filled air
and overhead Giotto’s blue

A Jar

Insect in a jar, metal holes gouged in a blue sky and a few sprigs of torn grass . . .

reflecting the many
deaths of childhood

Trail Through Winter

The storm had dropped 15 inches of snow on the mountain. Snow shoeing along the base, kneecap bruise on a trap rock boulder, and nostrils sting. The sun shows through a stray pine’s needles, seeing Van Gogh’s yellow marks in the sky til the sudden drawn down sun is gone. Return to a dark, cold house, red candle wax, and a turntable needle on Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone”
